The Bishop case was featured on the European Equivalent of "America's Most Wanted" on November 6, 1992. In addition, the Montgomery County, Maryland
Sheriff's office believes that Bishop is currently moving freely throughout Europe.
Bishop is wanted by the state of Maryland to stand trial for murder. He is the subject of indictment no.17511 filed on March 19, 1976 in the circuit court
for Montgomery county, charging him with five counts of first Degree murder, in violation of article 27l section 407, annotated code of Maryland. A warrant for the arrest of Bishop was issued by order of Judge Ralph
G. Shure of the above court.
The facts of the case indicate that on or about March 19, 1976, William Bradford Bishop, Jr. murdered his wife Annette Catherine Bishop, age 37; his three
sons, William Bradford Bishop III, age 14, Brenton Bermain Bishop, age 10, Geoffry Godfrey Bishop, age 5; and his mother Lobelia Amaryllis Bishop, age 68. The murders were the result of multiple blows to the heads
of the victims by blunt instrument force. The five burned and bludgeoned bodies were discovered in a shallow grave at Albermarle Sound, Terrell county, North Carolina.
On march 19 19769 William Bradford Bishop, Jr. Left work about 5:30 p.m. and went to the Sears-Roebuck at the Montgomery mall in Bethesda, Maryland. There he
purchased a 2 1/2 gallon gas can and a 2 1/2 pound mini-maul sledge hammer. That same day he purchased 13 gallons of gas from Dewitt Texaco for his Chevy Malibu station wagon and filled the 2 1/2 gallon gas can. The
gas can was found at the grave site of the five bodies in North Carolina. Also found at the grave site was a shovel which investigation revealed had been purchased by Bishop at a hardware store in Montgomery County,
Maryland.
During a subsequent search of the Bishop's residence in Potomac, Maryland numerous signs of human blood were found indicative of a violent struggle, consisting of large amounts of blood throughout the bedrooms, as well as the foyer area.
